The McKinney office of Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas serves five counties in our service area. The office works closely with local organizations by attending community meetings and outreach events such as the McKinney Community Connection Outreach Fair and being a part of the Collin County Homeless Coalition. Our office also hosts weekly intake clinics at the Justice of the Peace Court in Plano and the Collin County courthouse. We also conduct intake with Women In Need, a local shelter that serves Hunt and Rockwall Counties.
Our Equal Justice Volunteer Program (EJVP) coordinator is well known by agencies serving our client community through her participation with and networking at various outreach events. Our office regularly receives direct referrals as a result of this outreach. We host evening civil legal clinics through our EJV program in all counties we serve. We also receive referrals from local family shelters, the Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation, and several agencies that serve veterans.
The McKinney office sponsors the annual Builders of Justice Awards reception that recognizes advocates and organizations in our community who go the extra mile to help our client population. Our staff make presentations and conduct outreach to other community organizations and at local events to educate our client population about their rights and how our office can assist with their civil legal issues.
